The Telegraph Memorial attained its name from the fact that it was from this place that the last telegraph was sent to the Ambala army. This army was serving under the British rule by the British soldiers who managed to escape from the attack by revolutionaries in British Magazine in 1857. This memorial is about 100 metres away from the British Magazine. After the revolt the British company forces came together and overpowered the city of Delhi, but eventually the mutiny was compressed. The British East India Company dissolved and India came directly under the rule of New British Raj. A few years later the British government constructed a memorial, an obelisk, that honors the telegraph operators who transmitted the news of the Delhi revolt to the Britishers.
