All India Radio (AIR), officially known  as Akashvani since 1957.  It is established in 1936. It is the sister service of Prasar Bharati’s Doordarshan. Largest Radio Network in the World:

Akashvani/ All India Radio is the largest radio network in the world.  Akashvani and its office building known as Akashvani Bhawan Delhi.  It is one of the largest broadcasting organizations in the world.  It broadcasts 23 languages.  AIR contains  420 broadcasting stations across the country.

History of Akashvani/ All India Radio:

Bombay Presidency Radio Club started Broadcasting in June 1923. British government took over the broadcasting facilities. Broadcasting Service began in the Indian State on 1 April 1930.  Which is on experimental basis for two years.  And made permanent from May 1932.  It  named All India Radio on 8 June 1936 and known as  Akashvani from 1957.
