The ground witnessed many tournaments and championships. It was the venue for an Athletics open meet in 1964 where Paan sSingh Tomar set a new national record. The 56th National Kabaddi Championship was held in this ground. The venue was also used as the training ground prior to the Common Wealth Games in 2010.
Nearly for five decades the site has been home ground to the Railway Cricket team in the Ranji Trophy. A distinctive feature about this place is the old wooden green board type scoreboard which is revised after each run is scored.
