Feroz Shah Kotla Fort

Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi, formerly known as Firozabad was built by Feroz Shah Tughlaq along the bank of river Yamuna. Kotla means fortress or citadel. It was a well-organised city with palaces, mosque, pillared hall, water tank. An interesting fact is that the Ashokan Pillar which was 13.1 metres feet high made of polished sandstone was brought to Delhi from Meerut on the order of Feroz Shah and was fixed on the three tiered corridors structure near the mosque inside the fort. Older monuments were also refurbished by Feroz Shah at that time. Before Independence many musical concerts and performances were held in this fort.
