The first and oldest covered bazaar of the 7th century is Chatta Bazaar or the Meena Bazaar. The entry of this Bazaar is through three storey Lahori Gate, designed on a Persian market.. It was originally organised by the Emperor Humayun, later Akbar and his successor embellished this place. The main motive behind this idea was to make the women in purdah feel special and cheerful. The money earned from this market was used as charity or for social service of the people. This bazaar took 5-8 days of Norouz, which means new year festival. At that time, women of harem, wives of noble men, rajputs were allowed to participate, and no general public could enter the bazaar. The merchants were authorized to display their products, wares and move away.

Nowadays things have changed except Monday, this place is open for all. On both sides of the Meena Bazaar shops and stalls display their products like in the times of Mughal Era.
