The building has hosted 93 annual exhibitions of all India art exhibitions. The distinguished awards include the Kala Shree, Kala Vishushan and Kala Ratna inaugurated in 1988. Twelve awards are given in each of these grades every 3 years. The All India Fine Arts and crafts society was formed by Indian patrons of the art in 1928. The plot on which it was built is triangular in shape.
