This memorial is dedicated to our second Prime Minister, Bharat Ratna Sh. Lal Bahadur Shastri. The building is covered on the outside by a big lawn which also consists of an orchard, a badminton court, and a mandap that has Shastriji’s imprints. The lawn was the place where Shastriji met people and discussed various matters. Another section under the shadow of the trees is a more private lawn where he met his officials and did his paper work. The orchard is a symbol of Lal Bahadur Shastri’s popular message for the Nation- ‘jai jawan jai kisaan’. At the back portico, his famous Fiat car (1964 model), purchased by him against a loan from the Punjab National Bank, is displayed. Some other interior spaces display various other things related to his socio-political life – portraying his initiatives in the direction of foreign relations – through photographs, souvenirs, art objects etc. Another section is wholly dedicated to the display of Shastriji’s personal things including his khadi dresses, a woollen coat gifted to him by Jawaharlal Nehru, a pen, his wooden slippers, and other valuable personal items like a grooming set, clothes, a badminton racquet, and stationery.
