Jahaz Mahal

The name itself tells the meaning of the monument. Jahaz (urdu) means ship in english and mahal means palace. It was named so, because its reflection in the nearby reservoir looked like a ship floating on a lake. Built during the Lodi Dynasty, it is presumed it was a ‘Sarai'(inn) constructed to provide transit accommodation to the travellers from Turkey, Afghanistan, Iran. The other reason to build this Mahal was to retreat for the Mughal away from the heat waves of summer of Delhi.
