You would be shocked to know that there is a second Qutub Minar in Delhi. We call it Hastsal ki Laat or the Hastsal Minaret and is popularly known as the Laat. The design of this monument resembles Qutub Minar and same material is used red sand stone and bricks. This is a 55-feet tall monument and it is said that this is connected to Barah Dari via tunnel. The location of this minaret is at Hastsal village which is at western part of Delhi, bit far away from the famous iconic one at Mehrauli at southern part of the capital. As per the local stories, it is said Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built it in 1650 as part of his hunting lodge. Further it is also believed that this Hastsal ki Laat had five storeys when constructed, among which only three remain now. Each storey of this minaret is with reducing diameters and has octagonal rings around it. The name Hastsal suggest that the entire place used to be submerged partly in water, where elephants used to rest, hence the name Hastsal (hasth-elephant, sthal-place).
